About This Blog

This blog, this blog, what can I say about it? Well, it is private (at least it was). I really wanted a place to capture my thoughts back in 2015 and didn’t want a bunch of Microsoft Word documents stored on my computer, so I started a blog. I made it private, but if you’re reading this and you’re not my wife or one of my closest friends, then I’ve probably made it public. I have no clue how often I’ll write, but I plan to write periodically.

About This Name

Informally, being “about that life” indicates someone has a boldness to do things that most people wouldn’t. The “About This Life” title is a play on those slang words and meant to point to “this” Christian lifestyle.

About This Goal

The goal of this blog is to (1) give me an avenue to work out theological matters and complex issues in writing, which aids in solidifying my thoughts, and (2) provide a resource for Christians and skeptics alike (eventually).

About This Content

As it is subtitled, this blog will address things of Christianity, theology, apologetics, and how these areas overlap with the current culture. I’ll do my best to be apolitical, not because I think that’s an unhelpful area to address, but because I don’t think it’s the most helpful thing. It’s nowhere near as important as the Scriptures and gospel truths. As such, you won’t hear Democratic and Republican rhetoric but biblical ideas with little-to-no reference to political ideologies to the extent possible. There will be book reviews, thoughts on where I am in my Christian life, messages regarding current events, theological ideas I encounter, and the Monday Morning Apologist (a topic-based objection and response message that I created years ago on my social media account and transferred the content here. Read here for more information on it).

Moreover, while the Scriptures are inspired, inerrant, and infallible (the three I’s), I nor this blog are those three things. Therefore, if you see an error or something with which you disagree, count that to me and not to God. At the same time, I don’t consider myself a novice in the faith and make serious efforts to handle the Bible with integrity and interpret it accurately using a historical, grammatical, and cultural hermeneutic (interpretive method). Perhaps this blog challenges some of your attitudes and behaviors. I encourage you not to quickly dismiss it. Instead, follow the Bereans of Acts 17:10-11 and search the Script to find out whether these writings are accurate and true.

Finally, I serve in a leadership capacity in a local church, and it’s important to recognize that the views expressed on this blog do not necessarily reflect the views of that local assembly church.

Grace and Peace,

Van B.
