-OBJECTION: Paul may have spoken about homosexuality, but Jesus never did, so I believe it’s okay because it wasn’t important to Jesus.
-RESPONSE: First, you’ve made an unfortunate and popular error when it comes to understanding the Bible: believing that only the words in “red” matter. This is bad logic, and sadly, red-letter Bibles typically worsen the problem. Since Jesus is God, all the words in the Bible are His words—even if Paul is the one who penned them. So, the things Paul wrote in I Cor. 6:9 were effectively Jesus’s words too.
Second and perhaps more importantly, Jesus eliminated same-sex unions as an option when He affirmed the Genesis account of marriage, maintaining that it is between a man and woman (Matt.19:3-9). As well-intentioned as you may be, the question then becomes will you believe your own ideas or those expressed in the Scriptures? To paraphrase a preacher’s comment on the Bible: either the Bible is the word of God, or it’s utter nonsense—it cannot be both. If you still have a hard time accepting this truth, perhaps you’d be open to some recommended readings on same-sex attractions?1
