-RESPONSE: The Bible is quite reliable as a historical document. When you think about the credibility of the Scriptures, it holds far more credibility than most things you regularly read and accept (e.g. There is more support for truthfulness of the Bible than there is for a historical figure like Julius Caesar.).
The New Testament alone has more than 5,000 copies written in different languages across different regions at different times. Dr. Voddie Baucham soundly captures the various layers of truth that are applicable to the Bible: “[It’s] a reliable collection of historical documents, written by eyewitnesses, during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses, that report supernatural events in fulfillment of specific prophecy, and whose authors claimed their writings were divine, rather than human, in origin.”
