Monday Morning Apologist: Should Christians tell People they’re going to Hell?

-OBJECTION: Telling someone they’re going to hell is not loving, nice, or Christ-like.

-RESPONSE: What’s more unloving is to stand idly and not warn someone of the coming danger: hell and God’s wrath. Imagine a blind man about to walk into oncoming traffic. Now, imagine me sitting on the same street corner and doing nothing—not yelling, grabbing him, etc.—to discourage him. Imagine if I explained my reasoning as, “I didn’t want to be impolite or unloving.”

As for being Christ-like, Jesus left an example by frequently warning of hell and God’s wrath (e.g. Mt. 5:29, Mt. 11:24, Lk. 12:5, Jn. 8:24). He even spoke through His apostles in a way that demands AND commands repentance (Acts 17:30). The true, non-Christ-like behavior? Believing that Jesus is really God, the Bible is true, and still doing nothing to warn/discourage those who are perishing.

So, dear unbeliever, I say to you, “Flee from the wrath to come. Find refuge in Him. Repent of your sins and trust Jesus Christ to save you.”
